stories that uplift and encourage.Several years ago, while teaching high school art, I found out I was as thrilled as my students when they won awards or were acknowledged for their accomplishments, and that promoting other people's good works was very gratifying.
So it's my hope you are blessed with a message of grace through the words of authors featured here.

Deborah Raney's first novel, A Vow to Cherish, inspired the World Wide Pictures film of the same title. Deborah and her husband, Ken, traded small-town life in Kansas--the setting of many of Deb's novels--for life in the city of Wichita. They love traveling to teach at writers conferences across the country and to visit their four children and a growing brood of grandchildren (who all live much too far away).

Also hi-lighted this week is Deborah's Favorite Hymn....may it be as uplifting to you!
We actually sang my favorite song in church just this morning! "Holy, Holy, Holy." I just love the majesty of that hymn and its understanding of God’s glory and majesty. I first heard this song at my late Uncle Jim’s high school baccalaureate service when I was just a little girl. It brought tears to my eyes even then, especially “All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth and sky and sea."
I deemed it my favorite hymn right then, and I’ve never changed my mind in all the years since. My husband has instructions that it’s to be sung at my funeral (hopefully many years from now!) My second favorite line of the song (maybe because I’m an early riser?) is “Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee.”
P.S. I don’t think I’ve EVER been asked that question in an interview before in all the 20+ years I’ve been doing interviews. I love it!

Sounds like a great read. I love that song, too. We've sung it many times in church.

DeleteI, too, cherish this hymn that I learned as young Catholuc girl. At age 21, I becsme born again & so appreciated singing this hymn as Protestant because it was the only one familiar to me.
ReplyDeleteIf we grew up in church, hymns are extra special, I think! I remember when we moved to New York (from Kansas!) as newlyweds, hearing familiar hymns in the church we attended in New York was a reminder that God was EVERYWHERE!

ReplyDeleteHow perfect is that song. In this world we live in it is so great to know that we have a Holy God Who knows every thing going on and is in charge of thevworld. Nothing surprised Him and He will bring it all around to glorify His Holy Name.

DeleteGreat hymn! I love that one too. My other favorite is the Martin Luther classic, A Mighty Fortress. Deborah, I love the cover of your new book, and the premise sounds great. I've had camping and cottages (basically any getaways) on my mind all summer, so it speaks to me.It doesn't hurt that your hero's name is Quinn (my eldest son's name too). I'll certainly be adding this to my TBR list.

ReplyDeletep.s. I've already ordered "Reason to Breath", and can't wait to get it! Don't know the details of Quinn Mitchell's description, but I kinda picture Jim Caviezel playing the part? :) Do you have certain people in mind when you create your characters, Deborah?

I'm a very visual person, so I can't really make my characters come to life until I have a strong image of them in my mind!
